English Boxwoods or English Boxwood? Be one of the few that knows the plural of boxwood is just "Boxwood". There are many sources that market English Boxwood by calling them English Boxwoods. The true name is Buxus Sempervirens Suffruticosa, sometimes refered to as True English Dwarf. Their growth habit is compact and spherical, sometimes columnar. This shrub grows about an inch per year during it's flush that is early spring.
Container grown stock is important in a late spring or summer planting. English boxwood root development is mostly late fall and winter. The issue is that the plant material is compromised because it is very shallow rooted and many of it's fibrous roots extend out pass the drip line. With a container grown True Dwarf English boxwood, all of the root ball is sustained, therefore the survivability of the shrub is greatly enhanced.
